Ironhide is a planned character in Transformers: Prime, as well as the cancelled Transformers: Universe game.
He was planned to appear in the cartoon, with a hybrid design of his Bayverse and his G1 self. However, he got replaced by Bulkhead in the final cartoon. Meanwhile Transformers: Universe was unfortunately cancelled.
He does however, appear in the sequel of Transformers: Prime, Transformers: Robot in disguise (2015), as a short cameo.
Biography[]
Ironhide was intended to be part of the initial line-up in Transformers: Prime, but he was replaced by Bulkhead after the writers deemed their characterization closer to him. Later, on a featurette on the Transformers: Prime Season 1 Blu-ray, Rik Alvarez admitted that because of the death of Ironhide in Dark of the Moon, they didn't want to confuse kids with a living Ironhide. It's likely that the former story was a cover for the latter, for spoiler reasons. Later, Jeff Kline said that despite having a toy, there were no plans to feature Ironhide in the show... yet. It was even later said at BotCon 2012 that Ironhide would not appear in the show, but that he might show up in other places.
Later the game Transformers: Universe was cancelled, without any forms of explaination.

- Over the years, many fans feel the reason why Ironhide was removed is rather stupid and ridiculous:
- While Dark of the Moon released in 2011, Transformers: Prime released in 2010, one year before the film’s release, making it impossible for kids to confuse.
- Additionally, some even point out other characters that appeared in Prime does die in previous Transformers Movies, like Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave and Wheeljack (by the name of”Que” in Dark of the Moon) all die in Dark of the Moon. Arcee die previously in 2009’s Recenge of the Fallen.
- It is likely possible that the rising popularity of Bulkhead in Transformers: Prime, making him the new muscles of the Autobots instead of Ironhide.
- Another likely reason is that there are too many red characters in the cast (Optimus, Ironhide and Cliffjumper), therefore Hasbro replaced him with Bulkhead to add more variety.
- Some fans also speculated that Arcee’s Romance with Cliffjumper is supposed to be with Ironhide, as in generations 1 cartoon Ironhide is have a romantic relationship with Chromia, Arcee also bears similarity to Chromia in terms of personality and color. But after Ironhide got replaced by Bulkhead her romance is instead go with Cliffjumper.
